Is your vehicle winter ready?

Is your vehicle winter ready?

Sometimes it feels like winter may never show up, but in the Northeast it’s inevitable. Warm weather may stay around longer than usual some years, but it’s a foregone conclusion that the temperature will drop, and snowfall will make travel much riskier.

A lull in the action makes it the perfect time to make sure your car is in perfect working order. Here are 5 simple steps you can perform to make sure you’re not left stranded in the cold this winter season.

1) Test your battery: Your car battery won’t last forever, so you want to be sure you’re stuck somewhere at the worst possible time. Moe’s Auto Service Center can perform a simple battery inspection to make sure yours is operating at high efficiency and in perfect working order.

2) Make sure you have an unobstructed view: Driving safety will depend on your ability to see clearly through your front, back and side view windows and mirrors, so you want to maintain all your points of vision.

a. How do you maintain windshield clarity?
Make sure all your windows are clean inside and out and use only products made for cars because they offer water repellant, deicing and bug removing solutions and make sure you replace them frequently.

3) Care for your headlights:
Winter means longer darker days, so you want to be able to see in front of you at all times.
Headlight bulbs can wear out over time, they become dim and produce less light. That makes it a hazard for you and for other drivers. There is newer bulb technology out there that allows you to see further down the road, so consider having them replaced for your own safety.

4) Have your car inspected:
This is a necessity for all the reasons mentioned above. Make an appointment at Moe’s Auto Service Center and have your vehicle inspected before problems occur that cost you money and precious time. Do this on a regular basis if you can and not when the “check engine” light is on because that means it’s probably too late.

5) Regular maintenance:
Every vehicle comes with a maintenance schedule that’s been recommended by the manufacturer, and it’s a good idea to follow it. If you think of your car as an investment, you’ll want to take care of it. You need it to be reliable because transportation disruption is not only inconvenient, it’s costly.
